The Cool-Pi CM5 laptop. Not a bad way to run Linux or Android in the field, or get spun up on the operating systems that will be running AI tools for the foreseeable future. A great many of the AI platforms consist of a base board and enclosure, with varying power levels of AI engines plugged in. This laptop is a base board and enclosure for the Rockchip CM5 board. This has a 6TOPS capable NPU, and ARM Mali G610 GPU, and an RK3588 processor, which means it has four Cortex-A76 cores and four Cortex-A55 cores.
It also means that this is one of the only laptops where you could replace the CPU and GPU. This supports Debian 11, Android 12, Ubuntu 22, and Yocto. So you do get to take your pick of OSes to load up. Ubuntu 22.04 is preloaded, and for most of us this is perfect. If you want to go nuts, the Linux Quick Start Tutorial will point brave souls in the right direction. Just an FYI, the default user is 'coolpi' and the default password is '123'. Please, for the love of security, change them both.
